Text Relay Service Awareness Course



Official figures show that around 9 million people in Britain have a hearing impairment, a further 2.5 million have speech loss and another half-million have a serious stammer. This means that around 12 MILLION potential callers to your organisation may have problems using the phone. Can you afford to miss that level of business?

Creedence Training can offer training in understanding the needs of your deaf, hard of hearing, speech-impaired and deaf-blind customers on the phone. With over 10 years experience of the UK telephone relay service and over 20 years dealing with disability and telecommunications issues, we are uniquely placed to help your organisation not only meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, but capitalise on the market that you are missing.

Training can be for individuals, or teams and will give a complete overview of how these calls work. Including training on the textphone (Minicom) that you may have already* and use of the UK Relay service (Typetalk) There is some practical, hands-on experience and all aspects of these calls are covered.

*If you have a textphone already, Creedence can offer stand-alone training for individuals or organisations in all aspects of using your Textphone. Starting with the basics of making and receiving calls to setting the answering system, retrieving messages, and trouble shooting. Creedence has long-term experience of the Textphones that have been sold within the last twenty years.

Basic Awareness & Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind People

This course will equip delegates with basic awareness and skills for communicating with deaf or deafblind people. The course assumes no previous experience or knowledge ans is designed to provide introductory knowledge and skill for enhancing communication with deaf people. As an unaccredited course, it can be tailored or modified to meet the needs and requirements of you or your organisation.

The course takes one full day, but a more intensive half-day option is available.Both versions include course materials and practical/role play sessions.

Level 1 Certificate in Deaf Awareness and Communication with deaf and Deafblind people

The Level 1 Certificate is made up of two units:

K101 - Deaf & Deafblind Awareness

The K101 unit gives the delegate introductory-level knowledge and understanding about deafness and deafblindness. It describes what it means to be deaf, how being deaf affects one’s ability to operate in society and what assistance is available to improve communication between deaf and hearing people.

T101 - Communication Tactics with Deaf & Deafblind People

The T101 unit aims to equips delegates with some basic, simple skills for communicating with deaf or deafblind people. It is ideal for ‘frontline’ workers and others who may occasionally meet a deaf or deafblind person and who wish to develop some confidence in communicating during these first encounters.

This one-day (for both units) course includes 2-3 hours pre-course study and a booklet is supplied as part of the unit specification. Learners are expected to have leared the basic charts for the 3 modes of communication prior to the training.

Our trainers are registered and trained by Signature (CACDP - Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People) to offer these two Level 1 qualifications. These qualifications are nationally recognised and accredited by Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulator). Each unit carries its own accredited certificate. Candidates are assessed by a combination of a multiple choice paper and a simple practical assessment.

Disability Awareness



Creedence also offers a more general Disability Awareness training course. This course is not accredited but aims to raise awareness of what is meant by disability and an appreciation of the issues involved.
